Genealogy is such an interesting hobby we all have stories about how we got started tracking down our family trees.  As stated in my dedication my Mother Juanita Faus Pierce had started (with my grandmother Julia Hibbs Faus) researching the Faus family tree about the time I was born in 1954.

My father and grandfather were "waterwell" and "windmill" Men in the Panhandle of Texas for all of their lives.  My dad J.L. Pierce retired in the mid 1980's.

My grandpa pdficon.gif (253 bytes)LD Pierce (named after a preacher) learned waterwelling and windmilling from his cousin Ed Wilbanks. This is discussed at length in my genealogy book.   My pdficon.gif (253 bytes)Uncle Allen Pierce was a farmer in Hansford County. We knew all about  grandpa's other  brothers and sisters.  A big clan of the Pierces--descended from grandpa's Brother George Taylor Pierce lived in the Alice Texas area.  We also had many cousins in  the Hansford County and Spearman Texas area--the Wibanks, and the Comptons.
Grandpa LD and Uncle Allen's  Father, LD Pierce Sr. (Peg Leg Pierce),  had migrated to the Hansford County with
his sister Rhoda  Pierce who had married A.M. (Manney) Wilbanks. They left Johnson County TX in 1906.  They had  settled at the GoatNeck on the Brazos ranch in the early 1860's.   I did not learn this till much later.  The Pierce Wagon Train arrived in the area in the early 1840's. See more about this while reading my book or the Joel J Pierce Mystery.

My Great Uncle Allen had always talked about "some other Pierces" when I asked but he did not know much about them except that "Olla Del" was one of the daughters. He did talk a lot about Johnson County and GoatNeck where the Pierces originally had their ranch . The Pierce Cemetery is located there. Click Here for Map  & History of GoatNeck

PegLeg and Rhoda's Brother Clem Abercrombie Pierce (C.A. Pierce-C.A.P. Brand)
owned a large ranch in the GoatNeck Area. He was a Civil War Veteran.  See Clem's page above, and also See GoatNeck
Page for more info on C A Pierce. Added Photos  (to Clem Pierce Page) Pierce Cemetery GoatNeck on Brazos New Photos!of
Clem Pierce (only one known) and photos of daughter's Jessie-Tombstone on July 8 1999.
July 12 1999 received obituary of
Clem Pierce with much new information, from Joan Marks of Salmon, Idaho. Click on link to Clem's page above.

PegLeg and Rhoda's Brother George Washington Pierce migrated to Eastland County, Cisco Tx which is very close to Johnson County and Goatneck. He also as a Civil War Veteran. I did not know it at the time but his great great great grandson Eddie Force had visited Uncle Allen Pierce in Sperman Tx, in 1980.

There are many many links here! I am working on  a story ( done click here) by my Grandmother Julia Hibbs McManus  written this year about her grandfather Amos Hibbs. He was in charge of running a freight route from Dodge City KS to the TX Panhandle and from the TX Panhandle to Ft Elliot and Ft Davis. I also found another article about the same subject of Mullock Way Station by Julia's sister Ruth Hibbs Reardon. It is on the same page.

My Grandfathers family was well known to us and here is some of the info about his brothers and sisters. Nothing is known of Ora Finley-my Dad JL seems to remember something about her and her brother being orphans, and the brothers being in Grand Jct or Durango Colorado.

UPDATE: MARCH 28 1999  Today I finally found some old documents I had stored and finally found more info about Ora Finley as below
UPDATE: JULY 1 1999  Today I call from Laura Rivar of Wichita Falls TX, who has determined that she is descended from Ora Finley's family. She is sending more information soon. Amazingly enough she called and repeated to me a story she got from her great uncle about how Peg Leg Pierce lost his leg---Correctly!!
They even had some additional embellishments.
(see Peg Leg Page for story Link below)

In 1994 on the internet when I found Eddie Force of Russellville Ark,  I found out much more about the Pierce family at Goatneck Ranch on the Brazos.  I had already tracked down information about LD Pierce Sr, and Rhoda Pierce Wilbanks Parents.

Their Parents werepdficon.gif (253 bytes)Andrew Jackson Pierce and

wpe2.jpg (1069 bytes)Nancy E Abercrombie. I knew they both were buried at the
wpe2.jpg (1069 bytes)
Pierce Cemetery at the old Pierce Ranch at GoatNeck outside of Cleburne, Tx on the Brazos River.  But at this time I knew nothing about LD and Rhoda's other brothers and sisters and nothing else about the family, execpt the Wilbanks and Comptons who live in my hometown.

Capt. Andrew J Pierce's biography is in the above pdf link and the complete  history of his family and descendents is described in detail in my

 wpe2.jpg (1069 bytes)Electronic Pdf Pierce Book.

"Descendents of Capt Andrew J Pierce by LD Pierce"

My Cousin, Eddie Force had lived in GA and SC and had researched the family tree heavily for 13 years. He knew lots about the brothers and sisters of Andrew Jackson Pierce, and even that AJ Pierces father was deduced to Be
pdficon.gif (253 bytes)Reuben Pierce born 1768 Edgefield Dist SC (OLD 96 Dist).  But he knew little about AJ Pierces descendents except his own line--He was descended from George Washington Pierce born January 01, 1841 in Lumpkin Co., GA; died September 30, 1896 in Cisco, TX (Eastland County) at 55 years of age.  Eddie's Mother Bertha Force had a sister
(We did not know at the time that Bertha had been raised by my great-great grandfather LD Pierce Sr., after George W. Pierce's death.)
pdficon.gif (253 bytes)
Olla Dell Pierce Jones!!
When I found Eddie I finally found the Olla Della My Great Uncle Allen had always talked of!  She was Eddie's Aunt Olla Dell!
(We have since found out that Olla Dell was raised by  Clem A Pierce of Goatneck who was LD Sr.'s brother.)

Lester Jones 88,of Wichita Falls, TX, is the 2nd oldest living pierce descended from AJ Pierce and Nancy at this time.  His mother was Olla Dell Pierce Jones.

(note the oldest living Pierce at this time is Valney "Chunk" Fisher of Fort Worth Tx Age 96, son of Sally Pierce Clark. She was my Grandfather LD Pierce's sister.)

Eddie Force had even been to my hometown of Spearman in the mid 1970's and talked to my Uncle Allen and maybe even my Grandfather, but for what ever reason he did not get much information, for we knew all about our line-from LD Pierce Sr, and the Rhoda Pierce line marrying into the Wilbanks, still living in Hansford County!

By combining all our info he and I were able to fill in much about the descendents of Andrew Jackson Pierce and Nancy E Abercrombie.
(see genealogy book for full information here)

Of late (May 9 1999) I have been in contact with more Conn Descendants, and am making a page for them. My Great Grandfather's sister Nancy Pierce married James Madison Conn. They migrated to the Duncan OK area. Marlow OK. See link below April 1999 Received info from Connie Hunt, AZ also from this line.
